   My initial interest in these Chinese symbols was their beauty in design. They
      look like works of art.  The ICHING has several uses, but, my intent with
      painting each of the eight physical elements that surround the yin yang
     ( harmony symbol ) came about when experimenting with shapes, I told a friend
     how much I liked the three bars  horizontal  and vertically placed. He told me that
      was ICHING  for heaven or skies.  So I decided to do all eight. ( heaven,
      earth, life, mountain, wind, lake, water, fire )  My intent was to show the natural
      becoming manifest from the eternal. So the heavy layering of transparent
      glazes represents the eternal. The extrapolated bars the physical
      manifestation. This may not be the intended original idea .   
     For those who like definitions!!       ICHING-A Chinese book of
      ancient origin consisting of 64 interrelated hexagrams along with commentaries
      attributed to Confucius. The hexagrams, originally used for divination,
      embody Taoist philosophy by describing all nature and human endeavor in
      terms of the interaction of yin and yang. Also called book of changes.
